When to shoot
The best time for Galveston beach portraits
Golden hour — 60–90 minutes before sunset — is the most popular choice for beach sessions. The light is warm and directional, the beach is less crowded, and the Gulf has a beautiful glow at that time of day.
Morning sessions work beautifully for families with young children who are at their best early in the day. Light is soft, the beach is quiet, and little ones are energized.
Sessions are booked year-round. Fall and early spring are particularly popular for comfortable temperatures and low humidity on Galveston Island.
What to wear
Colours, layers and practical tips
Coordinate, don't match. Choose a colour palette of 2–3 colours that complement each other and the beach setting — soft blues, cream, white, sage and warm neutrals all work beautifully on the Gulf Coast.
Avoid busy patterns. Solid colours and simple textures photograph better than bold prints or logos, especially when the group is coordinating.
Dress for comfort. Children who are comfortable are children who cooperate. Loose, breathable fabrics work better than anything stiff or formal.
Bare feet are always encouraged — it keeps the beach feel natural and makes for beautiful photographs.

Working with children
Nancy photographs children by following rather than directing. She knows that the best shots happen between poses — during a run along the water, a laugh at the waves, or a quiet moment with mum or dad. Sessions are unhurried and low-pressure.

Gulf Coast wind is part of the landscape, not an obstacle. Nancy positions families relative to the wind, works with natural movement, and knows how to make breezy hair look effortless rather than chaotic.

Multi-generational and extended family sessions are welcome and common. Nancy coordinates group arrangements efficiently so you're not standing in the sun for long, and builds in plenty of time for smaller sub-groups and individual portraits.

Nancy specializes in proposal photography — she helps plan the setup and then photographs the moment from a distance, staying completely out of sight until after the proposal so the moment is genuine.

Galveston beach sessions are delivered through a private online gallery within 2–3 weeks of your session. Prints, albums, canvas and wall art are all available as add-ons — you choose only what you want to keep. Nothing is pushed and nothing expires.
Nancy's editing is realist: true-to-life color, natural skin tones and no heavy filters. The Gulf light at golden hour is already beautiful — her job is to capture it, not manufacture it.

Most often at Stewart Beach, East Beach, the Seawall area and quieter residential beach access points across Galveston Island. I'll recommend the best location based on your group size and session time.
How far in advance should I book?
Golden hour sessions in fall and spring fill up several weeks in advance. If you have a specific date in mind, reach out early — especially for weekends.
What if the weather is bad?
Overcast skies actually photograph beautifully — diffused light is soft and flattering. Sessions are rescheduled for severe weather or thunderstorms. We'll find a date that works.
Do you travel to other Gulf Coast locations?
Yes — I photograph regularly across Galveston Island, Crystal Beach, Bolivar Peninsula, Kemah, Seabrook and Clear Lake. Travel beyond my standard area is available for an additional fee.
Can we include our dog?
Absolutely. Pets are welcome at all outdoor sessions. Please check the specific beach location for any leash or pet restrictions.
Do you provide digital files?
Beach portrait sessions include a private online gallery where prints, albums and wall art can be ordered. High-resolution digital files of portrait sessions are not included by default but may be added on.
